The research project "Hibernation" is a collaboration between the Knowledge Media Research Center (KMRC) in Tuebingen, Germany and the Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology Institute (CNTI) in Nicosia, Cyprus. It consists of a series of empirical studies. With respect to theoretical approaches and empirical findings in the field of multimedia learning its main goal is to investigate the most effective type of educational visualization depending on the learner's personal characteristics such as experience with computers, prior domain knowledge, gender, motivation, preferred perceptual mode, and perceptual abilities. As a result of these research studies the interdisciplinary project also aims at developing educational software adequate for dyslectic children that will enhance their learning outcome.

The project was presented at the EARLI conference as well as at the ECEL.
